Statement of Purpose

It is my desire to fulfill the dreams and aspirations of all people who reside in the District of Columbia. For over fifty years I have been in the District as a child, a teenager, young adult and adult. I have worked in the Chamber of the City Council, the Halls of Congress and the streets of our City in attempting to address the many social ills which confront us. Over the past twenty nine years, since 1980, I have labored to respond to issues like homelessness, education, violence, employment, re-entry, business development, teen pregnancy, affordable housing, health, HIV/AIDS, poverty, and the Arts. Most of these endeavors have resulted in sustained efforts aimed at addressing these issues and enhancing the quality of life for the residents of the District of Columbia. It has also been my desire to build coalitions, bring solutions to problems, doing for all what is needed for their individual and collective health and well being of our City.

In becoming a candidate for an At-Large position on the City Council of the District of Columbia it is my aim to further the efforts started long ago to make our City a better place to live, learn, work and worship. It will be the purpose of this candidate to take bold new actions toward creating a city in which fairness, compassion and personal responsibility are the main tenets by which we live. Working with business and labor, students and teachers, gays and ministers, the poor, the middle class and the rich, communities and the government, we will work towards bringing lasting results to addressing our many challenges and enhancing the quality of life for all people.

In closing, it is the intent of this campaign to bring people together not keep them apart, to foster a spirit of cooperation and collaboration, and to thoughtfully, systematically, and programmatically search for ways in which we become a safe and clean city which exhibits togetherness, concern for one another and a true and lasting progress for all.
